On April 21, a racket manufacturing illegal alcohol was busted by the Amritsar Police. They arrested two with 1450 litre extra-neutral alcohol (ENA). The ENA is meant for Haryana-based distilleries. The police also seized a pickup vehicle (PB-02-BL-9352) from the 2 arrested identified as Samsher Singh (aka Shera) and Shubham Chopra (aka Mota of Sultanwind area). The officials also identified 3 more members of the gang as Jugraj Singh, Satbir Singh, and Raju. They informed that the gang's method was like the one used in the 2020 hooch tragedy that claimed the lives of over 140 people in Tarn Taran, Amritsar, and Gurdaspur districts. Dhruv Dahiya, the Senior Superintendent of Police (rural) said a team arrested the accused at a naka near Chatiwind as they were smuggling ENA from Haryana’s Karnal and Ambala. They identified some dhabas from where the accused used to steal the ENA He added, that the police are also trying to identify the people whom they were supplying it. At Chatiwind police station, under sections of the Excise Act, the police registered a case against the accused.
