18 killed and 6 injured in road accidents in West Bengal's Nadia district.

Eighteen people died and six injured during the massive accident in Nadia, West Bengal on Sunday.

The incident took place when a speeding hearse, carrying a dead person along with family members and kin of last rites of the deceased, hit a stone-laden truck.

Those killed included 10 men, seven women, and a minor whereas one of the injured, who was in critical condition, was referred to NRS Hospital in Kolkata.

The police said the matador was moving towards Nabadwip Burning Ghat along the Hanshkali-Krishnanagar state highway early on Sunday.

While it was crossing the Fulbari area in Nadia, it collided with a truck standing on the road. The driver of the truck has been detained.

CM Mamta Banerjee tweeted, "I'm heartbroken to hear about the road accident"

She further said I offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured.

The government of West Bengal will extend every necessary assistance and support to the kin of the victims.
