In the second wave of this pandemic so far, about 270 doctors have succumbed to the coronavirus infection as informed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on May 18. The list of the deceased doctors includes Dr. K. K. Aggarwal, the former IMA president who died because of the virus on May 17. Among all the states in India, Bihar witnessed a total number of 78 deaths of medical practitioners, followed by 37 deaths in Uttar Pradesh, 29 in Delhi, and 22 in Andhra Pradesh. According to the IMA COVID-19 registry, 748 doctors across India succumbed to COVID-19 last year. The IMA President, Dr. JA Jayalal, said, "The second wave of the pandemic is turning out to be extremely fatal for all and especially for the healthcare workers who are at the forefront."
