On May 1, another illicit liquor manufacturing unit got busted by the Amritsar rural district police and arrested 5 people. They are identified as Angrez Singh, Avtar Singh, Resham Singh, Sanjay, and Sawan Singh. Under the state government’s “Red Rose Operation”, this is the ninth racket busted in Amritsar since February this year. Dhruv Dahiya, Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar (Rural) said that based on the inputs by specific intelligence, a 6 hr long operation was carried out by the police. After which they found the manufacturing unit. They confiscated 1,18,400 kg of raw material (or 'lahan' used in making liquor), 390 litre illegal alcohol, 8 stills, 94 drums (each of 50 litres), 4 LPG cylinders, and 20 tarpaulins. SSP said, “Preliminary investigations show the accused had established a semi-mechanized scale of production of illicit liquor, which is based on the sourcing of raw materials like jaggery from within the village and is sustained by extensive illicit distribution chains radiating from outside the village." At the Lopoke police station, under Sections 61, 78 (2), 1, and 14 of the Excise Act, a case has been registered. Also, according to the legal provisions, the process to give up the properties of the accused persons is underway.
