Kempegowda International Airport. (Source of image: Arch Daily) On June 6, a truck carrying bituminous material caught fire inside KIA (Kempegowda International Airport), in Bengaluru. Five people sustained burn injuries. Bitumen is a black, sticky substance like tar used for making roads and roofs. The incident took place at around 9am. People from Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) team and fire tenders from Devanahalli station of Fire and Emergency Services came together to extinguish the fire. During the fire, two gas cylinders used to heat bitumen exploded. It took around 30 minutes for the firefighters to douse the fire completely, as the truck was carrying combustible substances. Two injured people are treated as outpatients in a nearby hospital, while the hospital admitted the other three for treatment.
