9 Arrested For Alleged Gambling In Surat, Including One BJP Worker

One BJP worker, along with eight others, was arrested at the Mota Varachha area in Surat of Gujarat on Sunday for alleged gambling activities, according to the police. The BJP worker is called Rajesh Bhikhadia, who is a resident of Mangaldeep Society in the Kapodara area. He is currently a member of the Surat Municipal School Board and was the former general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party's ward no. 4.


The police had received an anonymous tip-off, acting on which, personnel from Amroli police station raided a house in the Mota Varachha area, at the Vrindavan Society. A number of bikes and cars were parked outside that house. Inside, the police discovered gambling activities and booked these nine booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 4 and 5, and seized around INR 67,000.


The accused, Bhikhadia, had contested as an independent candidate and got elected with BJP support, in the election of the 12 seats of the Surat Municipal School Board, which was held on June 25.
