“A drone was spotted over the premises of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad on June 26. This has been taken up officially with the government of Pakistan. We expect Pakistan to investigate the incident and prevent recurrence of such breach of security,” External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said at a media briefing.

India, along with the Pakistan Foreign Office, had lodged a strong protest through a note verbally over the security breach at the high commission premises.

Security officials state that this was the first instance of suspected Pakistan-based terrorists deploying unmanned aerial vehicles to strike at vital military and diplomatic installations in India.

This comes hours after early on Friday Border Security Force (BSF) troops in India spotted a quadcopter from Pakistan which was trying to enter the Indian territory along the International border from Jammu's Arnia sector.

The movement of the drone was noticed near the border outpost, Jabowal, an intelligence official said. Spotted at around 4 am, the spy quadcopter was trying to get into the Indian territory for "surveillance of the area" and the border guards fired half a dozen rounds to bring it down. The quadcopter retreated after it was fired at by the BSF personnel, officials said.

Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria on Friday said the drone strikes in the Jammu airbase were an “act of terror” that was aimed at targeting key military assets.

Army Chief Gen MM Naravane on Thursday said that the easy availability of drones has increased the complexity of security challenges from both state and state-sponsored actors.

The day after the attack on the Air Force Station, soldiers prevented attempts to target the Ratnuchak-Kaluchak military station with drones in Jammu.
