Delhi court on Tuesday ordered the extension of the police custody of actor Deep Sidhu, who was convicted of the violence on Republic Day at Red Fort, whilst the farmers’ tractor parade against the Centre’s three new laws was ongoing.
Sidhu was presented before Metropolitan Magistrate Bhujali at the expiration of his police custody. Police requested his custodial interrogation to be extended, as it was required for further investigation as well as to identify others accused in the case.
The court had sent Sidhu to custody for a period of seven days, after police claimed him to be one of the lead instigators of the violent occurrences at Red Fort.
Police had charged Sidhu for being seen at the site of the incident. “He was instigating the crowd. He was also one of the main rioters. Several social media accounts need to be searched to identify the co-conspirators. Also, his permanent address is given as Nagpur but several places need to be visited in Punjab and Haryana to unearth further details,” the police had alleged.
As per police statements, Sidhu could be seen coming out with a person who was hoisting the flag and congratulating him. He came out and provoked the crowd urging them for protests.
