Allahabad HC rules out choosing partner are the sine qua non to right to life and liberty

Amidst all the row between cases of "love jihad" laws ruled by different courts of states, Allahabad Court ha held that "right to choose a partner, irrespective of religion, is intrinsic to life and personal liberty."

Justice Pankaj Naqvi and Justice Vivek Aggarwal made such observations while quashing an FIR of kidnapping, forcible conversion and case under the Posco Act against a man accused of forcefully converting and marrying a Hindu girl.

The HC was hearing a petition filed by Salamat Ansari and Priyanka Kharwar. The petitioners had sought quashing of the FIR lodged on August 25, 2019, at Vishnupura Police Station of Kushinagar. On this note, the court had ruled out that, they see both of these individuals as adults, who are free to make their own decision in their life.
