An IPS officer previously posted in Guwahati after being accused of attempting sexual assault gets transferred as the district SP at Bodoland, Assam.
The latest appointed Superintendent of Police in Bodoland district, Assam was recently charge-sheeted under the POCSO Act. They pressed charges against him for the alleged sexual assault of a thirteen-year-old.
On March 31st, 2021, they filed the charge sheet under sections 354, 354A of the Indian Penal Code, and the Protection of Child from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Section 354A stands for assault or criminal force to outrage modesty, sexual harassment. The case got registered on January 2020. The Assam Criminal Investigation Department was working on the case.
The charge sheet accessed by NDTV stated, " sufficient evidence” had been found to prove that the accused “committed aggravated sexual assault as defined under section 9(a)(iv) and section 9(c) of the POCSO Act, 2012, as well as offenses under section 354 and 354 A of IPC."
The alleged case of assault took place on December 31st, 2019. The incident happened at a party, at the residence of the accused. A case was registered on January 3rd, 2020, in an all-women police station in Guwahati. The mother of the victim filed the complaint who is a senior police officer in Assam. They later transferred the case to CID Assam.
The incident has led to severe "psychological trauma" of the victim. Assam government is yet to react to transferring the accused IPS officer.
