The BMC's survey exposes that around 50% of Mumbai hospitals have lapses in fire safety. The report came after a deadly fire-charred 10 infants to death in a civic hospital in Maharashtra's Bhandara.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation served notices to 663 private hospitals out of 1325 hospitals of Mumbai due to lax fire safety.

The question was jointly submitted by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis, Atul Bhatkalkarv, Abu Azmi, and several other MLAs to urban development and public works minister Eknath Shinde about the development in this case.

Taking into consideration, Sinde assured to take action. Replying to the particular question about the fire safety audit, he admitted that BMC had surveyed 1324 hospitals, out of which 663 private hospitals have been served notice for lax fire safety. However, the minister was silent on the question asked what action had been taken against relevant officials of the municipal corporation for negligence.

The opposition party says that this is a stereotypical standard reply. These types of assurance are just mere words.
