On April 26, a 50-year-old entrepreneur identified as Thirumaran died after being attacked with bombs inside a temple at Maraimalai Nagar. The incident took place at 6:30 pm. They involved him in a case of suspected business rivalry. A local AIADMK, functionary- Thirumaran, survived two deadly attacks before. This time he along with his wife was visiting the Arulmigu Selva Muthukumara Swamy Temple to offer prayers for their wedding anniversary. Ezhilarasan, his personal security (a police officer) was accompanying him. Thirumaran was walking towards the temple while being on a call. The gang of 8 was already waiting for him and threw a bomb at him. Luckily, Thirumaran escaped from it, but the second bomb killed him. Ezhilarasan rushed to protect Thirumaran and opened fire at the gang, killing one of its members. They identified the dead assailants as Suresh (19, Tiruvallur district). The rest of the members of the gang escaped. A murder case has got registered by the Maraimalai Nagar police, and they collected CCTV footage from the locality. They formed a special team to locate and arrest these killers. The authorities have approached the court for a magistrate probe as the police officer opened fire. For autopsy, they have sent the body of Thirumaran to the Chengalpet GH. Involved in the real estate and iron scrap business, Thirumaran had been offering labor force service to private companies in Chengalpet and Kancheepuram. Police informed he had a rivalry with Rajesh and Jagan, his former business partners. He got a firearm without license in Nagaland for his safety as he felt his life in danger. He got an armed PSO through court, as he escaped deadly attacks in 2016, near Singaperumal Koil and another one in 2017.
