Court has denied bail against Louise Khurshid in connection with the Zakir Hussain Memorial trust case. The case involves Rs 71 lakh, which was received by Dr. Zakir Hussain Memorial trust operated by her.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Praveen Kumar Tyagi issued a non-bailable warrant against her and trust secretary Athar Farooqui.
"The next hearing date is on 16th August".
About the case?
Zakir Hussain Memorial trust in March 2010 received Rs 71.5 lakh from the central government. The reason for the amount was for the distribution of wheelchairs, tricycles, along with hearing aids for physically challenged persons in 17 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
In the year 2012, allegations of forgery and corruption surfaced against the trust’s office-bearers.
Though Khurshid denied all allegations and her husband was a minister in the UPA government.
The probe and the allegation
The signature of senior officials along with fake seals was used for receiving the amount from the central bank.
The trust organized several caps in different districts for differently-abled children across the districts. According to trust “all equipments were distributed among children and Louise Khurshid verified it as a director of the trust in May 2010”.
However, later discovered the organized camps existed only on paper.
