Dacoits break into retired Army official's house in Silchar: sixteen injured in an open fire

Silchar: A herd of 20-25 dacoits attacked a retired Army jawan’s house in Silchar and injured sixteen people in an open-fire. The retired jawan named, Aji Uddin had a house in the Burunga village of Kalain block in Cachar district.


The dacoits broke in and looted a massive amount of gold ornaments and around 4 lakh cash from the household. As per reports, the dacoits beat Aji Uddin’s wife when she claimed that her husband was not at home. The dacoits broke several almirahs of the house and turned the place into chaos.


The wife managed to call some people from the neighborhood for rescue. However, the robbers conducted a spontaneous open fire injuring sixteen, after which they fled. The police arrived at the crime spot later and carried a severely wounded Aji Uddin to the Silchar Medical College wherein he was declared critical.


Following the incident, on Wednesday, an angry mob converged on the Silchar-Guwahati highway to express their grievances against the lack of investigation in this matter. They also demanded steady, rigorous efforts for arresting the culprits.


Assistant Superintendent of Police (Cachar), Mr. Jagdish Das informed the media stating, “Police have launched a massive hunt for the dacoits and all the police stations have been alerted across the district. We are hopeful that some of the dacoits would come to the net soon.”
