The Election Commission on Thursday ordered repolling at one booth in the Jangipara assembly constituency in Hooghly district of West Bengal because of complaints from political parties alleging that the Trinamool Congress had appointed agents who had accompanied and assisted voters to cast their votes in favor of the TMC, an EC official said.
Polling within the Jangipara constituency took place in the third phase on April 6. The repolling within the polling booth at Jangipara will take place along with the 4th phase of polling within the state.
Statement of Opponent Parties
"This is a welcome move. All the political parties had complained that TMC agents were taking people inside the polling booth, accompanying them to the EVMs, and making them vote for them. Even the polling officer could do nothing. We had complained to the EC and I am happy that it has ordered a repoll, ," Debjit Sarkar, a BJP candidate said.
