An FIR has been registered at Contai Police Station in East Midnapore against the TMC turned BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari and his brother Soumendu Adhikari, Former Chairperson of Contai Municipality for stealing relief materials from Contai Municipality.
The authorities have lodged it based on the complaint, 'Contai PS Case No. 198/21 dt 1.06.21 u/s 448/379/409/120B IPC r/w 51/53 Disaster Management Act 2005', registered against the Adhikari brothers, Himangshu Manna and Pratap De. The complainant, Ratnadip Manna is himself a member of the Board of Administrators of Contai Municipality. He had submitted the complaint on the 1st of this month where he stated that on 29th May, Himangshu Manna and Pratap De, took away a truckload of tarpaulin from the official godown of Contai Municipality. The complainant said that he had encountered Himangshu Manna carrying out the alleged theft. Upon being asked, Manna told that the task was being carried forward as per the instructions of the Adhikari brothers. The relief materials, estimated at a few lakh rupees approximately, were taken away from the municipality office godown by forceful and illegal means.
The complainant further stated that the Central Armed Forces had been present and supervised the alleged theft.
Every now and then Bharatiya Janta Party has accused the Trinamool Congress of siphoning off relief material. But now Suvendu Adhikari, right after his victory in Nandigram, and his brother have been booked under the same charge. The alleged BJP MLA was also involved in the Narada case of bribery that received huge public attention. Well-known politicians involved in the same case were arrested a few days back yet no charges have been pressed against him as of now. During the arrest, it was much heard among the people of Bengal that the Center was trying to protect its MLA’s. Thus, the arrest of the alleged theft is a much-awaited topic. However, Mr. Adhikari has made no comments on it as of now.
