First snowfall of the year has been experienced at The Kashmir Valley



On January 3, 2021, The Kashmir Valley witnessed the first snowfall of the new year 2021. As of the information, the snowfall started approximately at midnight. Around 5-inch of snowfall was accumulated in the areas of plains including Srinagar and 1-2 feet was accumulated in the areas of hills including famous ski resort Gulmarg and famous tourist resort Pahalgam.


Heavy snowfall has affected the vehicular tariff as well as air traffic areas too. The higher authorities of Kashmir has suspended all of the three highways of Kashmir due to the heavy accumulation of snow on the runway and poor vision.


Though, all the tourists who have gone there for vacation are enjoying the snowfall as it has made their journey more beautiful. All the tourists were out of hotels and houseboats enjoying the fresh snow.


According to MeT prediction, snowfall to be increased from Sunday to Tuesday and keeping that in mind authorities has started to make arrangements as per as requirements.


According to The Meteorological department, "Moderate snowfall reported from most places of J&K and at Zojila area."


According to the forecast, January 3 and January 4, moderate to heavy snowfall might be experienced in the areas of South Kashmir, Gulmarg, Banihal-Ramban, Poonch, Rajouri, Kistawar, Zanskar, Drass and on higher reaches of Ladakh region. It has also been notified snowfall will continue from January 3 to January 6 with the occasional break.
