Three Dalit sisters, all of them minors, were attacked with acid while they were asleep at home in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district.
The oldest of the three, aged 17, has 35 percent burn injuries, while the other two, aged 12 and 8 sustained 25 percent and 5 percent burn injuries, respectively.
The girls have been admitted to the district hospital in Gonda. The eldest sister has suffered around 30% burn injuries, said the doctors.
Police said the three daughters were sleeping on the first floor of their house when some unidentified people jumped onto the rooftop at around 2 a.m from the adjacent building and attacked the three with acid.
No suspicion yet: Family
Gonda Superintendent of Police Shailesh Kumar Pandey told the news channel that the family has not named a suspect. Police teams have been formed and both the forensic teams and dog squads have already investigated the crime spot.
While taking girls to the hospital, the distraught father denied any enmity. The family was gearing up for the pre-wedding ritual of their eldest daughter scheduled on October 23.
The police officials suspected the incident to be a handiwork of someone close and were investigating the nature of the chemical used.
