Haryana man who performed last rites of over 300 COVID-19 victims dies

An official of the Hisar Municipal Corporation, who assured a dignified funeral for over 300 COVID-19 patients ever since the outbreak of the pandemic, succumbed to the disease just two days after testing positive, a spokesperson said on May 18.


Municipal Corporation's Statement

Praveen Kumar, 43, died at a non-public hospital on May 17 night, the spokesperson of the Municipal Corporation stated. Kumar was the chief of the team created by the Municipal Corporation to cremate the bodies of coronavirus victims.


"He had cremated over 300 COVID bodies so far since last year. He tested positive two days ago and thereafter, he got admitted to a private hospital. It was here where his oxygen level kept dipping due to which he died," the spokesperson said.


Kumar was also the president of Municipal Corporation Safai Karamchari Union in Hisar. They conducted his last rites at a cremation ground in Rishi Nagar in Hisar on May 18 as per the COVID guidelines.
