On September 14, a 19-years-old Dalit girl from a village in Hathras said in her dying declaration that she'd been molested by 4 upper-cast men from the same village. But Uttar Pradesh Police claimed that the 19-year-old Dalit woman had not been raped and declared the incident a bluff.
Nearly, after 3 months the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a charge sheet against four accused in the Hathras case on charges of gangrape and murder, contradicting the Uttar Pradesh on December 18, 2020. The CBI Investigating Officer in the case is DSP of the Anti-Corruption Branch, Ghaziabad, Seema Pahuja. The victim's family, now hopeful of getting justice, said the truth can't be hidden.
The agency solicited charges of gangrape, rape, and murder against Sandeep, Luvkush, Ravi, and Ramu. And in the local court of special judge BD Bharti, in Hathras has taken soc and sac, the lawyer for the accused informed. The charges also included charges under provisions of the ST/SC Act.
The court has fixed January 4 for the next date of hearing. The Lucknow bench of the HC which is monitoring the probe will take up the matter on January 27.
The UP Government had recommended the CBI probe in the case on October 2 when the District Administration allegedly forcibly performed midnight cremation, denying the family permission to carry the corpse home for the proper last rites. BJP has transferred the case to the CBI after the controversy. The CBI has also recorded the statement of the victim's family.
