A huge intensified protest broke out in several places of Uttar Pradesh and other places in the country after the family of the 19-year-old victim alleged that they were forced by the UP police to perform her last rites in the stealth of the night. The police said they have the consent of the kin.
Opposition appeal for CM Yogi's resignation and claim the cremation was done to suppress the protestors.
However, the family alleged, the district authorities offered them only 20 minutes to finish the rituals, which they didn’t agree to, calling it “harassment” and torture”.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi said the people of the country are sad and angry over the gruesome incident and said the “Nirbhaya of Hathras did not die but was killed by a cruel and insensitive government and its administration”.
“RESIGN. Instead of protecting the victim and her family, your government became complicit in depriving her of every single human right, even in death. You have no moral right to continue as chief minister.” she added.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra claimed that she was on call with the victim's father when the news of her death attacked him. He was in deep despair and he's chance of taking his dead daughter home for one last time was also snatched away from him, she rebuked.
The 19-year-old was raped by four men in the village of Hathras on September 14. She was found naked with her tongue cut and in a critical condition with multiple fractures and was fighting for her life.
The victim died on Tuesday fighting for her life. She was first admitted to Aligarh Muslim University's Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital and then shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Monday.
According to a statement by the victim's brother, his sister and his mother were cutting grass in the fields when nearly five men approached from behind. They grabbed his sister by her dupatta and dragged her inside the baajra field, he said.
The UP police cremated the victim's body barricading her family and the neighborhood in the midnight of Wednesday. The police now claim that the body was neither raped nor the tongue was cut.

CM Yogi Adityanath talked with the victim's family yesterday and as concern has offered them the amount of Rs 25 lakh and a government job to one family member. He has condemned the crime and has assured that they will reach the justice.
UP CM on Wednesday constituted a three-member SIT to probe the gang-rape case, a day after the death of the 19-year-old woman in a Delhi hospital and also asked for conducting the trial in a fast track court.
￼ Family of the accused in the Hathras gangrape case claim that they have been falsely charged for the crime and that there is a decades-old enmity between the two families.
The name of the four accused, as identified by the woman, are Sandip, Ramu, Lavkush and Ravi have been charged with rape as well as murder.
Three of the four accused have been reported to have been living in the same house and to be related.
