In Ahmedabad, five-storey building collapses.


While eight ruined buildings collapsed, the AMC’s (Asset Management Company) estate department reported that damage has occurred on 46 private buildings along with another 27 houses with a mix of kuccha-pucca structures.

Representational image of strong winds and heavy rainfall that accompanied the cyclone Tauktae swept Ahmedabad on Tuesday and Wednesday.


Of Ahmedabad’s old city on Wednesday evening, a five-storey residential building collapsed in the Jamalpur area, fire department officials reported where they claimed no such casualties or injuries.


A seven-year-old boy died after a wall collapsed on him in the Madhavpura area because of heavy winds. When the incident took place, the boy, Kunal Dataniya, a resident of Balapirna Tekra near Kalyan Gram society, was playing outside the ‘Technoset’ autorickshaw factory.


Ahmedabad police control room statement said,


“Due to heavy winds owing to cyclone, the wall collapsed, and the child came under its impact. The victim was rushed to civil hospital where he was declared brought dead."

The extremely severe cyclonic storm Tauktae made landfall between Diu and Una town of Gir Somnath district in Gujarat at 1.30 am and about 45 people have lost their lives in cyclone-related incidents in Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook an aerial survey of the cyclone-hit areas of the state. And announced an ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh to be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives because of the cyclonic disaster which took place in all affected states. A compensation of Rs. 50,000 will be given to the injured.
