Indian Govt may likely to have vaccines by Jan-Feb, at 50% of MRP

India is likely to receive the first lot of anti covid shots in late January and early February allowing some frontline workers like doctors, nurses and municipal staff to receive the vaccine.

This will be possible as India plans to approve Serum Institute of India a heads up in favour of emergency use approval for the Oxford - AstraZeneca vaccine candidate as soon as it gets similar approval overseas in the United Kingdom.

While SII will need to apply for emergency use, the firm will likely start producing in bulk rate in and around December. The Centre is finalizing a contract with vaccine manufacturers for procurement of doses.

An official source has also provided with the information that the Indian Government has negotiated for a better price, almost half of the original marked price. This would amount to a total of two vaccines being available by February.
