Jharkhand Judge’s Death: Not A Case Of Hit-And-Run; CCTV Suggests Foul Play.

District and Additional Judge, Uttam Anand was out for a morning walk on Wednesday when he was hit by a three-wheeled vehicle (locally called ‘tempo’) in the Magistrate Colony of Dhanbad district of Jharkhand.

According to the police, Judge Anand was discovered by a local around 5 in the morning, severely bleeding by a deserted stretch of a road, merely half a kilometer from Anand’s home in Dhanbad. The local took him to a nearby hospital where, soon after, he was declared dead. He remained unidentified before his family finally filed a missing complaint around 7 a.m. Following this, the police tracked him down to the hospital.

The case was initially assumed to be a hit-and-run case. However, the matter was raised before the Supreme Court by Supreme Court Bar Association President, Lawyer Vikas Singh, when security footage of the accident was released today.

The CCTV footage reveals the judge jogging by the side of the road as the alleged tempo takes a turn to deliberately go for him. It rams the judge and drives off, showing murder. As per the Police, the vehicle used was also stolen.

Singh had initially raised the matter before a bench led by Justice Chandrachud saying, “ It is an attack on Judicial Independence.” He had urged for a CBI probe at the earliest possible. However, the case was referred to as the Chief Justice of India. Replying to this, N. V. Ramana stated he had spoken to the High Court of Jharkhand and thereby refused to step in. He thus asserted: "We are aware of the case and we will take care. If we interfere in this state, it will hamper the probe."

According to the sources, Justice Anand was handling several high-profile cases which involved mafia killings and wanted criminals of Uttar Pradesh.

The Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court has issued orders asking SSP, Dhanbad to present the details of the case before him. Two suspects have been arrested already. The police are furthering investigating following the leads of cases pending in Justice Anand’s court. He had recently rejected the appeal for bail of two accused from Aman Singh's gang, an outrageous criminal of UP. Among other scandalous cases pending before his court was the murder case of Ranjay Singh, a close aide of Jharia, MLA Sanjeev Singh.
