The priests used to sleep inside the temple
Three cousins, identified as Ganesh, Prakash, and Anand who served the temple as priests were found brutally murdered at Mandya temple. The bodies were found in the courtyard of Sri Arakeshwara Temple at Guttalu on the outskirts of Mandya city this Friday morning. Their heads were smashed with large rocks.
The police said that the priests used to sleep on the premises for the security of the temple and its property. There were no hints of resistance which means that the murder might have been committed when they were asleep. According to the police, there were more than three attackers. Empty money collection boxes were found outside the temple which suspects that robbery was the purpose of murder. The killers fled with cash in three hundi boxes, leaving only a number of coins scattered near the hundi.
The temples fall under the Muzrai section and this temple in Guttalu is classified as a group "B" temple. IGP (Southern Range) Vipul Kumar of Mysuru rushed and visited the crime scene. The bodies were found by the villagers and a case has been registered in Mandya East police station. Police said that before the escape, the miscreants looted the temple precinct in search of more valuables and money.
The cops are taking the help of sniffer dogs to track the culprits. Mandya SP Parashuram
stated that special teams will be formed to trace the guilty. Karnataka chief minister, BS Yediyurappa has announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh each for the families of the three deceased.
