Karnataka to suspend vaccination for age group between 18 to 44 years old
The Covid – 19 vaccination for the age group between 18 to 44 years will be temporarily suspended by the Karnataka Government. The Covid-19 vaccination drive has also got suspended for those who have already booked their slots as well, as per said by the state’s health department.
The order will apply to all the government Covid vaccination centers in the state, according to the state government.
“Today the state government has decided that the vaccine bought directly by the state for vaccination of persons between 18 to 44 years will be utilised for vaccination of beneficiaries who are due for the second dose," reads the statement.
Also, the state government has used the vaccine which has been procured for the age group of 18 to 44 years, for the beneficiaries of 45 years and the above who are due for the second dose.
"Therefore, all vaccines available with the state government, including supplied by GoI and bought directly by the state, will be utilised for vaccination of beneficiaries due for the second dose. Vaccination for the age group of 18-44 years (including those who have already booked appointments) will be temporarily suspended from May 14, 2021, till further orders. This order will apply for COVID vaccination at all government COVID vaccination centres in the state," adds the statement.
On Wednesday, the Karnataka government imported vaccines because of its shortage of vaccines and outrageous demands increasing the cause of a high number of cases.
The Karnataka Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar on Wednesday said that the government will have to purchase vaccines for people between 18—44 years of age group.
He said the government will administer vaccines as and when the stocks will arrive.
