After the complaint, police directed their families not to harass the couple
A lesbian in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district sought police protection after being threatened to dire consequences by their families.
According to Shamli district magistrate Jasjit Kaur, two women aged 22 and 23 eloped from their village fearing a sudden threat to their lives after they decided to get married.
The police assured them safety and called their parents directing them not to harass the couple.
The couple was later sent home and the statement was recorded on the basis of which an order would be released later by the sub-divisional magistrate.
