Additional Director General of Police - Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, announced the arrests made by the police. “UP ATS has uncovered a big terror module. The team has arrested two terrorists linked with Al Qaeda's Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind,” said Kumar.
The two men arrested by the ATS have been identified as Maseeruddin and Minhaz Ahmed. In the raid, it also recovered IED explosives and pressure cooker bombs, that confirms their association with the terror groups. As disclosed by the ATS, it was working on a lead that Umar Halmandi, a wanted member of the Al Qaeda, was sent to India. Halmandi operated from Pakistan- Afghanistan border, as known by the sources. His coming to India indicated a mission being planned.
However, Maseeruddin and Minhaz Ahmed are both locals of U.P. Maseeruddin, the father of two, is a resident of Madiaon in Lucknow. His wife is a professor at a private university in Lucknow and lives with his children at the university hostel. Minhaz lived in Dubagga itself.
Upon being interrogated, the accused accepted the involvement of more people who are on their run to escape at present. The ATS has 5 other suspects on their list.
A Special Cell of the Delhi Police will also supposedly arrive in Lucknow this week to probe into the matter that might spread terror all over the country.
