Central Railway(CR) has installed five flap-based entry points at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus(CSMT) to screen outstation passengers and examine commuters' movements.
Long-distance passengers will have access to these gates
The gates will be commissioned later this week. These gates have a QR code scanner and thermal screening facilities. Passengers will have to place the code on the QR code scanner at the entry for validation of their tickets.
Currently, the QR code is generated for tickets through the IRCTC website or PRS counters. The code carries all the necessary details of the and can be accessed from the ticket generated in the IRCTC app, from the PDF of the ticket or by clicking the SMS received upon booking the ticket.
The passenger will be allowed to board the train only after temperature screening.
Illegal access, social distancing will be controlled
The flap gates will ensure efficient management of the crowd as well as help in maintaining social distancing norms at the station. Also, unauthorized access to the premises will be curtailed.
Both CR and Western Railway are planning to install these gates for suburban commuters as well, after the results of the trial at CSMT.
