Hundreds were admitted with symptoms ranging from nausea to fits and fainting
Traces of lead and nickel were Wednesday found in blood samples of 15 more people affected by a mystery illness in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru. AIIMS Delhi had found traces of heavy metal in 10 patients on Tuesday. The source of contamination is not known yet.
62 medical teams have been deployed by the West Godavari district administration to monitor residents in Eluru and nearby areas. Till now, 578 cases of the mystery illness have been reported, of which 471 have been discharged while 76 are still under treatment. 7 out of 30 have been discharged from the Vijayawada Government Hospital who had serious issues while the rest are still under treatment.
Household surveys have been made compulsory by the medical and relief teams to monitor the residents.
Consumption of mineral water has been found dangerous. The illness is not limited to the Eluru Municipal area, and cases have been reported from Eluru Rural Mandal and Denduluru Mandal too, where the source of water supply is not the municipal corporation.
