NANDED GURUDWARA ATTACK: 17 detained and FIR reported against 64

A mob of Sikhs with swords attacked a bunch of policemen on Monday in Nanded after they were denied permission to hold a public procession in view of the ongoing coronavirus spurt.

The Gurudwara Committee was informed, that, Hola Mohalla, a Sikh festival played around the time of Holi every year to display one’s martial skills wouldn’t be taking place due to increased rates of Coronavirus cases, the Committee agreed to abide by the orders and agreed to hold the event, inside the Gurudwara premises, However when Nishan Sahib, a Sikh triangular flag, was brought out at 4 pm, several people started to argue and within no time, the conflict arose. 300 youths stormed out of the gate, broke the barricades, and attacked the police.

Four constables were injured and six vehicles were also damaged in the violence. The condition of one of the injured policemen was serious. The Wazirabad police in Nanded district detained 17 people and registered three FIRs under the IPC section against 64 people, under charges of attempt to murder, grievous hurt, and rioting.
