On Tuesday, the Gujarat government came to a decision of increasing the night curfew by two hours. The curfew would be extended in four major cities till the 31st of March. The cities with the extended curfew are Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and Rajkot. The new timing is to be implemented from Wednesday (Today).
The timings of curfew were from 12 am to 6 am earlier. It has now been changed to 10 pm to 6 am. The decision of extending the curfew is taken keeping in mind the outburst of Covid cases. This step is taken to contain the spread of the virus. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani as the head of the coronavirus taskforce took the decision in the core committee meeting on Tuesday.
The government stated,” The state government has taken a decision to impose a curfew from 10 pm to 6 am keeping in mind the spread of coronavirus”. The restrictions are to be followed by the 31st of March.
On March 16, Gujarat reported 890 new cases of COVID-19 making a total of 2,79,097 cases in the state. Last month the state reported nearly 200 cases every day. The total death count is 4,425 in the state due to the virus. A state government official revealed that Surat had the highest number of new cases (262), followed by 209 in Ahmedabad, 97 in Vadodra, and 95 in Rajkot.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation asked its eateries, restaurants and other public places in 8 wards of the city to close down till 10 pm. The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) decided on Monday that the next three T20 matches among India and England would be held without any spectators in the Narendra Modi Stadium due to the virus outbreak.
