On Saturday, the farmers who were protesting against the three anti-farmer bills in Haryana's Karnal district were lathi-charged upon by the police, resulting in serious injuries in many farmers. The Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, had been held responsible by the people for this attack.

The farmers have reported that the police had launched an unprovoked attack on the protestors. Amidst this, a video has emerged which had captured the shocking scene, where the sub-divisional Magistrate, Ayush Sinha, was instructing the police to break the heads of the protesting farmers. He is heard saying in the now-viral video, "Sar phor dena". CM Khattar had been later seen to be defending this Magistrate when he said that the "strictness" was needed. The CM has accused Congress of instigating the farmers.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha has demanded the resignation of Khattar from the post of Chief Minister and the registration of a case against Sinha, on Tuesday. They, along with Opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, have shown their solidarity with the protesting and injured farmers of Haryana. The Shiv Sena has termed this attack as the "Second Jallianwala Bagh." Bharatiya Kisan Union's (Haryana unit) chief Gurnam Singh Charuni has said, "We slammed the state BJP government for using police force on farmers. I request all farmers to come out and block all highways in the state."

As a protest against this attack, farmers have gathered and blocked all the highways of Haryana. The police have arrested seven local farmer leaders, along with their 250 unidentified supporters, who blocked the Panchkula-Shimla highway at Chandimandir toll plaza, to protest against the lathi-charge on farmers in Karnal.
