Puducherry Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) Dr. Kiran Bedi has been ceased to hold her office amid a political crisis in congress-led government. Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan was given an additional charge as L-G of the union territory.

President's order comes amid the political crisis inside the ruling Congress-led government.

The ruling Secular Democratic Alliance government led by Congress' Chief Minister Narayanaswami has been reduced to a minority after the resignations coming from the legislators.

Earlier this month, a delegation led by CM met the President, submitted documents containing signatures collected from the people in the last two weeks, and demanded to seek recall of the L-G Kiran Bedi, for allegedly impeding the implementation of various decisions of the elected government. The delegation consisted of Welfare Ministers M Kandasamy, Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao, and a lone member from Puducherry in Lok Sabha V Vaithilingam.

The ruling alliance had also gone on a four-day agitation from January 8, demanding the recall of Kiran Bedi.

CM accused PM Modi and Bedi of having the conspiracy to merge Puducherry with neighbor state and alleged " hatched a conspiracy to dismantle the separate status of Puducherry by merging it with Tamilnadu. "

However, on Monday health minister Malladi Krishna Rao and on Tuesday, Congress MLA A John Kumar resigned from the party. With it, Kumar had become the 4th Congress legislator to quit the party over the last month. Two others who left- former minister A Namassivayam and MLA E Theeppainthan have joined the BJP.

Currently, the Puducherry assembly is consists of 33 members including 3 nominated MLAs. Of its, current strength is 28 currently, the Congress has 10 MLAs and the DMK three, and the ruling SDA coalition is supported by an independent. While the opposition has currently 14 MLAs includes seven MLAs of the NR Congress, four of the AIADMK, and three nominated MLAs of BJP.

After Bedi's removal, the CM Narayanaswamy said that The Center has woken up with only weeks to go before election assembly." I do not know whether it was done because of elections. But whatever damage has to be done, she has done. It can't be rectified. The people of Puducherry will remember it and it will be fresh in their memory ." And also rejected the demand of opposition to his resignation, claiming that his government ' 'continues to enjoy majority' in the assembly.

Amid political turmoil, former CM and NR Congress head N Rangaswamy demanded CM's resignation and had said that they will meet L-G soon. "this government has become so unpopular. Narayanaswamy does not admit his mistakes and blames other parties for all that he does," he added.

Kiran Bedi released her video at Raj Bhavan and thanked the government of India and promised her a deep sense of satisfaction.
