Noida: The Aqua Line Metro recently started facing issues from several city dwellers. Allegedly, the city dwellers rose in protest when the Metro started skipping 10 sectors. This usually started occurring at peak hours of the day. This created an inconvenience for the daily commuters, office-goers, students, and workers. The protest took place against Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC). The metro also skipped Sector 101 and Sector 50 that included transgender passengers.
The NMRC has started the service for “fast trains”. The trains skipped stops with “low-ridership”. This was to ensure faster travel between Noida and Greater Noida by nine minutes.
On Saturday, a hoard of office-bearers including residents of Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA), the Noida Federation of Apartment Owners Association (NOFAA), and social activists conducted a protest. The crowd gathered in front of the Sector 101 Metro Station demanding a withdrawal of the move made by the NMRC.
NOFAA President Rajiv Singh said that a balance between convenience and speed was necessary. But skipping so many stations was not the solution. He addressed the concern of several residents living there. The people had chosen to buy properties near the Metro station for convenience.
NEFOWA Secretary Shweta Bharati informed that the city dwellers are raising voices for quite some time now. But there is no response from the officials. Dozens of people living in these sectors that are skipped have to rush to other stations. This issue would amplify further. Because educational institutions and corporate offices will reopen after the pandemic.
The protestors at Sector 101 also said that they wanted to hand over a memorandum to NMRC at Sector 50 station. But they were not allowed to travel there by metro.
