The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee to lead a 3-day protest against farm bills
Farmers in Punjab have organised a three-day rail roko protest starting from today. The protest is against the Centre’s farm bills. The bill has been cleared in Lok Sabha. It has also been passed by voice vote in Rajya Sabha on Sunday. The farm bills now await for the President’s nod to become a law.
The farmers are worried that the bills will demolish the current Minimum Support Price(MSP) system and will leave the farmers at the mercy of big corporates. The government, however, claims that the MSP system will remain unchanged and the new bills will result in higher profits for the farmers.
Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee general secretary, Sarwan Singh said last week, “ We have decided to hold a ‘rail-roko’ agitation from September 24 to 26 in the state against the farm bills.”
Another farmer’s organisation has called for a state-wide ‘bandh’ on September 25. Also on the day, the Congress have launched an almost two-month-long mass movement against the Centre for passing these ‘anti-farmer’ and ‘anti-poor’ bills.
