Retired Navy Officer Beaten Up For Forwarding Cartoon on Uddhav Thackeray

The incident took place around 11:30 in Lokhandwala Complex

62- year old Madan Sharma was allegedly beaten up by ruling Shiv Sena workers for forwarding a cartoon on Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray in a WhatsApp group on Friday.

The retired navy officer received a call from Kamlesh Kadam asking for his name and address, which Sharma provided. In the afternoon, he was called outside the society gate and was attacked by a group of around 8-10 men. They dragged him by his shirt and started punching him.

With red and swollen eyes, although Sharma apparently escaped serious injuries, he managed to reach his home shortly thereafter and then went to the police station to file a complaint, even as several BJP leaders criticized the government for the incident.

A case under IPC section 325 (causing grievous hurt) and provisions relating to rioting was registered against 6 persons. Kamlesh Kadam and nearly 5 others were arrested late in the evening.
