Shooting at Colorado market, suspect under surveillance

Slaughtered, mass shooting, at least 10 people including a police officer at a grocery store in Colorado on Monday, police said, in the latest shooting to hit a state that was the site of two of the most infamous mass murders in US history.

Kevin Daly, the owner of Under the Sun Eatery and Pizzeria Restaurant a block or so from the supermarket, said he was in his shop when he saw police cars arriving and shoppers running from the grocery store. He said he took in several people to keep them warm, and others boarded a bus provided by Boulder police and were taken away.

According to video footage cited by Reuters that was broadcast on local television, a shirtless, bearded man in boxer shorts was seen manacled.

In a tweet, the Boulder police department said, "We have multiple victims who lost their lives. One of the victims is a Boulder police officer. Asking media to honor families' privacy."

According to a database compiled by The Associated Press, USA Today, and Northeastern University, Monday’s attack was the seventh mass killing in the United States this year, following the March 16 shooting that left eight people dead at three Atlanta-area spas.
