Shopian encounter: Security forces eliminate 2 terrorists including top Jaish commander

Security forces gunned down two terrorists including one top Jaise -e- Muhammad District commander Wilayat Lone alias Sajad Afghani on Monday during a three-day-long joint search operation in the Rawalpora area of district Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir.


J&K DGP Dilbagh Singh confirmed the killing of terrorist Afghani in the Shopian encounter. The key member of JeM, Afghani was actively recruiting youths of Kashmir into the terrorist organization in the Shopian District.


The other JeM's eliminated terrorist was identified as Jahangir Ahmad Wani from Rakh Narapora.


The terrorists were killed in a joint operation launched by Police, the army's 34 Rashtriya Rifles, and the CRPF on Saturday.


Security forces started the search operation on Saturday itself but to avoid any collateral damage it was suspended from time to time.


Police said that our security forces allowed them to surrender but they started gunfighting. The retaliation led to an encounter.


One US-made M4 Carbine rifle and one AK-47 rifle have been recovered from the site of the encounter.
