Silver secured, Aiming for Gold at Paralympics

Bhavina Patel in an epic 5 set match defeated World number 3, Zhang Miao of China, in class 4 semifinals of Table Tennis.


Zhang Miao is the defending silver medalist from Rio Paralympics 2016. By defeating Zhang Miao, Bhavina Patel has secured India's first medal in Paralympics as of today and overall 13th medal for India in the Paralympics event.


She is going to face World number 1 Zhou Ying on the 29th of August 2021, against whom Bhavina Patel had lost the First group match.


In the semifinals, Bhavina lost the first game 7-11 but made a strong comeback and won the two consecutive games, 11-7,11-4. But Zhang Miao still had some fight left in her. She won the fourth set 9-11, forcing a fifth deciding set. Bhavina, with two superb shots, sealed the game 11-8. The semifinals lasted for 34 minutes.


But I have always believed that nothing is impossible if you give it your best shot. And today I did it.

said Bhavina Patel after winning against China's Zhang Miao.


If Bhavina Patel wins gold in the finals, she'll become the first woman to secure a gold medal at the Paralympics event and will be the fourth person to win a gold medal in the Paralympics from India.


If she loses, she'll join Deepa Malik to become the second woman to win a medal in the Paralympics overall.
