The government has announced to reopen the Kartarpur corridor from Wednesday, For the upcoming Prakash Utsav of Guru Nanak Dev in mind.
The Kartar Pur corridor links Pakistan's gurdwara darbar sahib, which is the final resting place of Guru Nanak dev to the Dera Baba Shrine in India's Gurdaspur District of Punjab state.
The home minister Amit Shah said the decision reflects the immense reverence of the Modi govt towards Shri guru Nanak dev Ji and our Sikh community. he further said the nation is all set to celebrate the Prakash Utsav of Shri guru Nanak dev Ji on the 19th of November and I'm sure that govt decision is to reopen the Kartar Pur corridor will boost the joy and happiness across the country.
The Kartar Pur corridor was inaugurated on November 9, 2019, to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak dev.
Approx 59,000 pilgrims visited the gurudwara since it has opened. Sikh pilgrims from India earlier used to take buses to Lahore to eventually get to Kartar Pur.
The visa-free 4.7 km Kartar Pur corridor was shut last year due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Earlier, former Punjab CM caption Amarindra Singh wrote to Mr. Modi to open the corridor, today he thanked PM, " it will provide a chance to thousand of devotees to pay obeisance at the holy shrine on the occasion of Guru Purab of Guru Nanak dev Ji", he tweeted.
