In the Malda area of West Bengal, one individual was detained, while four others were being sought in connection with the gangrape of a tribal girl and the molesting of her younger sister.
A young tribal woman was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped on Tuesday night, while her younger sister was held hostage and assaulted by five others. Their mother became ill on Wednesday and died on the way to the hospital.
“We have the identities of the five accused,” Malda SP Alok Rajoria told reporters about the incident. The victim filed a complaint, which led to the arrest of the main suspect, Shailen Soren. The other four people are being sought. “A complaint has been filed under IPC Section 376 D (gangrape) and the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) Act,” Rajoria added.
The siblings were coming from a village wedding on Tuesday night when they were approached by some youths from a neighboring village, according to the police. Two of them carried the older sister away, while the others kidnapped and molested the little sister.
According to the elder sibling, the youths took turns raping her in front of her younger sister. Later, she managed to flee the spot and informed the villagers.
Later, local residents went searching for the younger sister and found her near a bush. However, it was later determined that she was not sexually assaulted. Of the five accused, two were identified by the elder sister.
Shailen Soren, a convict, was arrested by the police on Wednesday night in connection with the incident.
