Two LeT militants killed in a gunfight in Sopore.

On May 5, an operation launched by the security forces in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, killed 2 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants, with a non-local militant. The 2 LeT militants were involved in the killings of 2 BJP-affiliated municipal councilors. One of the dead terrorist identified as Hamas aka Asrar aka Saria. He was a foreign terrorist active in north Kashmir since March 2018, and the local militant identified as Wasim Ahmed. Police also informed that the identification of the second terrorist is yet to be discovered. Vijay Kumar, the Inspector General of Police said, “Two terrorists of the LeT outfit were killed at Nathipora area of Sopore. Sarai was also the mastermind behind an attack in Sopore, in which two municipal councilors, terrorists, and a policeman were killed on March 29. He’s the first foreign militant to be killed this year." The encounter started when the terrorists in hiding started firing indiscriminately upon a joint search party in the area. From the site of the encounter, police recovered arms and ammunition, including an Insas rifle, an AK-47 rifle, and other incriminating materials. Wasim Ahmed Lonem's family (from Hatlangoo, Sopore), was asked to identify the body of the second dead militant.
