Two protesters die after SUV crashes into them

In a tragic incident, an excise inspector crashed his SUV into protesting farmers. The incident took place in Patiala. The accident caused two casualties and five others got injured.

The incident took place around 7 pm yesterday. The accused, Pritpal Singh, jumped a red light. Following this, he rammed his Toyota Fortuner against a peaceful gathering of farmers. The farmers were protesting against the three farm laws. They have been protesting against the laws since September 2020. The incident occurred right outside Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala.

Pritpal Singh received many injuries. He recovered from the site. Now, he is admitted to a private hospital- Vardhman Hospital in Urban Estate. They had taken him into police custody.

Among the two casualties was Inderjeet Singh, a 65-year-old resident of Ranjit Nagar. He died on the spot. Ansh, a two-year-old of Aarti Nagar locality, also got injured. They admitted him to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh. But, later on, he succumbed to his injuries.

They admitted four of the injured to a government hospital. One person was admitted to a private hospital- Columbia Asia Hospital.

Pritpal Singh crashed his Fortuner (CH 01 AQ 6969) against a Maruti Swift. Four other vehicles got damaged in the accident.

An FIR has been filed against Pritpal Singh. He is booked under sections 297 (Rash driving in public), 337 & 338 (Causes hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently on endangering human life), 427 (commits mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees or upwards), 304 & 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) IPC.
