UP Police Beat Teen To Death For Violating Lockdown Norms

A couple of police constables beat a teen vegetable vendor to death for violating lockdown norms

Seventeen years old vegetable vendor, Mohammad Faisal, was brutally beaten up by two cops, constable Vijay Chowdhary, and home guard Satya Pradesh. He was selling vegetables in a local market beyond the deadline of 3:00 PM.

The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh's Bangarmau Town, Unnao. The spot is 65kms away from the state's capital Lucknow. The boy was allegedly taken to the local police station where he was assaulted badly. After a while, he lost his consciousness. He wasn't moved to the Community Health Centre until his health further deteriorated. According to Faisal's father, Mohammad Islam, the boy was declared dead by the health center around 4:30 PM in the evening. ,y the time the victim's family reached the police station, he was already taken to the hospital. "On reaching the 'kotwali' ", Faisal's father said, " We learned about his death".

The accused policemen, Vijay Chowdhary and Satya Pradesh have been suspended as an immediate effect of the incident. The Additional Superintendent of Police, Unnao, Shashi Shekhar stated that the deceased’s relatives filed a complaint. The accused could be booked for murder. In a statement, police stated Unnao Superintendent of Police Anand Kulkarni, suspended Chowdhary and sacked Satya Pradesh. Additionally, it has been mentioned that a case would be soon lodged against them.

Enraged with the action of the police, protests broke out at Lucknow. The agitated crowd demanded justice, a government job for a family member, and proper compensation for the victim's family.
