Superintendent of Police Alok Rajoria said, that the bodies of accused Asif Mohammad's father Jawad Ali (50), mother Ira Bibi (45), sister Arifa Khatun (17), and grandmother Alekjan Bibi (75) were exhumed and sent for post-mortem examination. The incident came to light after the accused’s 21- year-old brother Arif Mohammad, who escaped during the incident and changed locations during these four months, informed law enforcers at Kaliachak police station on Friday night. The SP told reporters, “On February 28, Asif had served all the family members cold drinks spiked with sleeping pills. As they fell unconscious, he tied their hands and gagged their mouths with duct tapes. He then drowned the four people in a reservoir in the house. He dug a hole in the warehouse wall and buried the bodies in the basement." The elder brother somehow managed to loosen his duct tape and escaped from the house after a brief physical struggle with the accused and escaped from Malda. Returning to Malda after a few days, he filed a complaint in Kaliachak police station. According to PTI, the accused demanded an enormous sum of money from the deceased and several lakhs of money and electronic gadgets including a television set, smartphones, laptop, and CCTV cameras were recovered. However investigation is underway to find the motive behind these murders, and the complainant, his brother Arif Mohammad is being interrogated, said Rajoria. The neighbors stated Asif had been acting weird, isolated himself, and did not mix well with people or allow them to enter the house. The only time he used to step out of the house is to collect online food deliveries and on asking him about his family he shrugs the topic by saying they have gone to their flat in Kolkata. The accused is in police custody and will be produced at Malda District Court on Sunday.
