The pilot project of KMDA has been completed to reduce the rate of accidents triggered by kite strings on Maa flyover. Wires have been put up on both side flanks within every 30m stretches of the flyover. During this project, the flyover was closed for few days of this month. From 11 pm to 5 am the flyover remained close because of this project. The wires are fixed at Park Circus Bridge no 4 areas. Slim long poles along with lighter wires were selected in spite of full net coverage in this project. According to the KMDA engineers, the materials were selected to resist the strong winds as the light but rigid poles are able to hold off the wind and torn the kite strings.

The project actually approved by KMDA after Kolkata Traffic Police has given the proposal of installing 4ft nets. According to police sources, the net was to be installed at a height of three meters in a three-kilometer stretch from Park Circus in maa flyover to Science City. The police had also proposed to install the net in the rest of the flyover. Traffic police officials claim that if the three-meter-high net is installed, the thread made of sharp Chinese Manja will fly over the flyover but it will get stuck in the net. The higher the net from motorbike riders, the lower the risk of accidents.
It has become dangerous for motorbike riders since the mother started flying through the flyover in 2015. Bike riders have been involved in accidents many times as kite strings fell on the flyover while flying a kite from an empty space in Topsia, Tangra and Tiljala areas. In addition, four bikers died after falling off the railing top after a motorbike accident on the flyover. The Traffic department hope, if the net is installed, at least the deaths can be prevented by falling down. Lalbazar has been able to breathe a sigh of relief as this initiative has been successful.
